QR development hits the road, NYC and San Francisco

Postby Jimmi » Mon Jul 06, 2009 10:47 pm

I don't think we will be wrapping a formal QR-con event around these trips, for we are saving that type of fan fare for AFTER QRimson is done, when we will be much more happier to promote Quadradius. But for now I thought I would let you know of my excursions. I am normally tethered to my desk, which means I am bound to my apartment to work on Quadradius. But this week I should be the proud owner of a decent laptop, which will enable me to work away from my home. So I can work from the park, coffee shops, friends house, etc.

But then I thought, why do I feel tied to my city? Since I will be mobile, lets truly be mobile. First stop, NYC. Brooklyn area to be exact. I will be living there for a week, working on the game, and seeing the city. Maybe have some kind of informal meet up one of the days, and meet some of the players, and have them meet each other. Oh, and get some face to face QR battles enacted. I will be there between Friday, July 10th - Thursday, July 16th.

Then I get back to Boston just in time to catch a flight to San Fran for 10 days (July 17th - July 27th), where I will be staying with Brad, the QR art director. I will get to see two weekends there, working heavily on the game, checking out the weather, hills, and drinks. And while I am out there, I too would like to meet any QR players abound. Who's in? Details to follow.

Who else is up for a QR meet in SF bay area?

I am - if I can sneak away from family for an evening. It would be cool to meet Jimmi and other players.

I met up with L0de in Brooklyn, and he told me some wild stories of his life, seeing crazy parts of the country, New Orleans, and all sorts of shenanigans. It was great to meet up with such a good QR player.

Staying with brad for about 6 more days. Staying in Knob Hill area, but I've been trekking aroud. Cinder, def meet up one of these days, just suggest a time. Evening is better since brad is working days. And anyone else who happens to stumble across this post in time. Not hyping it up as anything awesome, but let's meet up. I'll bring my laptop and maybe play a game or two face to face.

Hey Cinder, got your email. I think my last 3 hours here in San Fran will be spent getting food and drinks here in the city, somewhere close to the BART line. I have to catch a flight back to Boston at 10:50 at night on Monday. So the way I see it, me and Brad going out for one last night in the city, 6 to 9ish, then I split for the airport. So if you or anyone is in the Tenderloin area, and wants to meet up, get food, etc, that would be cool.

We will solidify an actual place sometime early on Monday. San Fran has been cool, but I want to see some sun again this July before it's over. It has been in the 60's almost the entire time I have been here, and I keep hearing how Boston is in the 80's.

I miss San Fransisco. I love the design of that city. Too windy for me though.

I wish it was in the 60's here, but I'm burning up in the 90's down here in the South.

I probably can meet up tonight, but I have a huge project due tomorrow for work. Lemme see how it goes and I'll message you around 1:00 pm if I can meet you guys. Guess there are no other QR junkies in the area.

Ok, me and Brad will be finishing off my 10 day stay in San Francisco at The Irish Bank Bar and Restaurant today, from 6 to 9. we are very laid back people, so just show up and find us if you want. I'll be the bald guy with red pants, green shoes, and a gray shirt. Brad will be there when he's done with work. And it's right next to the BART stop for your convenience. Montgomery stop.

Is there a chance that you would be able to come to the UK Jimmi? - I signed up to the Quadboard just to ask that question... and I'm eagerly awaiting a response!

I personally have never been over seas. I would love to visit some European or Asian country. I hear Japan is a fun country to visit, and many people tell me I would love Berlin, Germany. The UK? Sure, I would love to check that out too. I have recently been really into working in other cities, and exploring, so maybe it is a bout time I try to go over to your side. I will have to see how things pan out in the near future.

Sweet ! - if you do ever get a chance to come to the UK, it would be cool to meet up for a game. I'm based in North Yorkshire at the moment which is a beautiful, vibrant county. Oh! and the moors are a great place to get some inspiration for anything if your stuck for ideas.

Let me know if you do decide to come to the UK, and thanks for replying!

I dont know if you remember former Quadder Spag (met him at QR Boston), but he's now in Tokyo, so I'm sure if you need a place to crash I can get a hold of him for you.

Never been overseas ...

Postby Snoop » Sat Aug 22, 2009 6:28 am

It's funny... as an Aussie, that's something I don't see to often... someone aged 30-ish who's never been O.S... But I guess in the US you've got so much to see in your own country that you don't have to go O.S to have a great holiday !... Hop on a plane and see how the other half live !!! There's a great big world out there !!!! and it's getting smaller and smaller. Japan's great, by the way !! I lived there for 6 years, myself... brought myself back a souvenir... her name's Chie !
