Tier 2 Interface

Have an idea to make Quadradius better?

Tier 2 Interface

Postby Ted Danson » Sat Jul 07, 2007 9:57 am

I haven't seen the tier 2 powers much yet, but they are a great idea. They reserve more powerful powers for pieces that earn them and add more powers without watering down the orb pool. But you really have to be in the know to use them. What if there was a tier 2 interface in the power menu. Once you have the duplicate powers, the tier 2 power appears in your menu with a new name and description. The menu design would indicate that it was a tier 2 - maybe just by indenting it under the parent powers? Then of course if you use your tier 2 power, it takes away 2 of the parent powers. This would also allow a 2nd tier to single use powers. Multiply2 could be Clone. Smart Bombs could become Bombs2…

Awesome idea! Thumbs up.

The point about too many powers diluting the orb pool is an excellent one. Making very strong powers, like smart bombs and recruit (swap second tier) be second tiers would ensure their rarity (by needing to get two of them on a single torus) and would make them more "earned" instead of just stumbled upon.

Adopting this premise would be a huge game changer, but a very positive one in my opinion.

This would definitely show newer players the value of saving their powers rather than shooting them off as soon as they gather an orb, and offer a little bit of convenience to the already educated players and strategists among us.

I like the idea of a second tier power being displayed as "Merge" under its parenting power, while the question mark to its right links to a description of the second tier effect.

Both thumps way up.

I'm thinking each tier 2 power would have a unique name, so you can identify them. I was throwing Merge out to describe tier2 Scavenger.

Good point about incentive to hold your powers - particularly single use powers with a cool 2nd tier

Even cooler.

I'm with Rob. I don't know if Jimmi is willing to change the interface this much right now, or ever, but one day it might be kinda cool.

Very nice. The best suggestion I've seen in a long, long time.

i didn't notice that before, but making 2 swaps = 1 recruit is a great way to make having 2 swaps not suck, which otherwise it kinda does unless you can kill the swapping piece. great idea

Excellent...so would we have the option of using each of the 2 first-tier powers (possibly at separate times), or would they automatically convert to a second-tier power?

I would guess that torus mods could be used in succession on separate turns as they are now, but one-time powers would have to be cashed in at the same time.
