Forum Trolls: A Discussion

*There is no "forum meta" board, so I figured this was just a good spot as any*

Well, we've pretty much all witnessed the recent jump of forum trolls lately, albeit only a few people. Yet, only those few people can make such a mess of upstanding threads, forcing them to be split out and throw into the scrap heap. Now, I'll probably be accused by these quite nonupstanding members that I'm not worthy or well-known enough to make a thread like this. Fact is, this needs to be brought up. Yes, being unruly and angry on the boards do sometimes qualify as warranted, such as in the heat of a tournament where an injustice was done, but there are limits to such emotions. These trolls just don't seem to be able to stop. That being said, what needs to be done by the other members of this Qmunnity is to somehow stop these trolls. Yes, we can all ignore them, but that urge, as I found, is somewhat hard to resist. It does feel good to "attack" someone that you will probably never ever know, but all it does is fuel this growing fire.

That was a mouthful, but I just need to know that I'm not alone on this. The scum infesting these boards needs torn off, with the exception of our "esteemed" members (TLP). Therefore, what are your opinions on this? Is this just being blown out of proportion by me, or is the QuadBoard looming on MMORPG forum quality? And trust me, we don't want to ever go there.

Who decides what a troll is? Some Self-Righteous douchebags?

I can see action against trolls snow-balling into "Hey this guy said QR isn't his favorite game!!! BLASPHEMER!!!! BAN HIM!!!"

I just don't like group action against a minority. Ignore the trolls and they lose their power, it's really that simple.

This just feels like "hey, we should get a mob together and burn some people at that stake."

Despite being ridiculed quite often for my posts and such, I'm with gizmo on this one. Just ignore them. They feed off of comebacks and smack talk. If they screw up a thread...the admin will move it to the heap. Yea it's annoy...yea I want to attack them...but at the end of the day this is the internet and this is a game...no need to get bent out of shape (which i admit that I have done in the past).

Trolls are actually easy to spot. I can usually tell right from the beginning. In fact, i dont consider Visa a troll. his triple posts is a little weird, but i told him about that. a troll is someone who doesnt stop after being asked to, only contributes negative, and pretends to be here for the "greater good" of the Qummunity. i let them play on the forum a little, but eventually, we bring in the big guns. They are like viruses, and i let them wander to see how you guys deal with them. overall, you all deal pretty good, but even one feeding them, and the trolls continue. truth be told, you guys as a whole have never been able to stop a troll, because always one of you takes the bait, and i always have to step in in the end. It would be cool to see you guys do a 100% ignore, but someone always fucks it up. But we can always give it another go?
