Let's talk about some games

Postby Rhox » Sat Dec 31, 2011 2:51 pm

It's been awhile since I've posted anything on here. I haven't felt the need to check into Quad recently because I already knew what I would find. Nothing. I'm assuming a lot of you have been doing the same, lurking without really saying much. That's probably why there are only a handful of posts a week. I remember the days where I could get on here daily and have a bunch of material to catch up on, whether it be arguing with the trolls, laughing my ass off at TLP, searching for some sign of sanzo, eager at the next opportunity to try and beat him, or just reminiscing with Rob, 47, and the other guys.

I think we need to get back to the basics. Let's get back to talking about Quadradius. Want to vent but have never been the type to start up your own thread over a random game? Or maybe you're a n00b who is afraid to ask for help? A vet who's been dying to talk to someone about a new strat you thought up? Feel free to talk about it here, along with any other Quadradius thoughts or ideas that might cross your mind. Don't worry about trolls, the really bad ones will be censored out. And yes I still have the power to do that, so HA trolls! In your face.

With that being said, I just had an awesome game with Big DC. I gave up early board position to protect some orbs but it didn't really affect the stalemate phase of the game. DC could have been aggressive and pushed his position but he chose to stay back and gobble up any orb that came his way. DC made an aggressive move when he Bene'd and Flat-to-Sphere'd over to my territory. He didn't suspect that one of my few powered pieces had Recruit Row. I took his King piece and then set up a little combo of my own. After a Learn + Teach that included several pieces with Invisible and Climb Tile (important in this game seeing as DC Walled his front row), I tried to push my way back from a 7-13 deficit. DC was defended pretty well though and the numbers advantage proved quite difficult to overcome, even with all my Invisi's. Most of his tori had other tori backing them up, waiting to pounce if I made a move. I managed to even out the score a little until DC got a few Invisible pieces of his own. I was down to 2 Invisi's and I just couldn't keep up. In the end, he smashed my remaining army in a few swift moves.

i still play alot while catch up reading on the internet on one screen i play on the second screen. which is why i don't really chat or play slow and passive. If I want to play empire building, games like Civ V is way more engrossing but that's just me. QR is great in that people can look at it very differently and still enjoy themselves. My goal in most QR games is to end it before the beni teach happens.

Lost my primary HDD a couple months back and been busy with other matters, but soon I'll be back to capturing and posting games on YouTube...

Cheers,

I had a bit of an epic come from behind in a recent game with Frumpy Jones. His first power was a jump proof and he quickly started taking my pieces. Then he picked up another orb and recruited almost an entire row of my pieces. After the dust cleared, he had about 24-5 advantage. It is at this point that Frumpy made a mistake. Instead of pressing his advantage and wiping me out, he just picked up orbs and left me some space to pick up a few. With a beni + teach, I was able to scramble column and then inhibit most of his pieces. I also had 12 bombs between two pieces. I then bombed the hell out of the board. At the end of the bombing, we was left with 4 inhibit pieces and I had 1 piece left. He tried to corner me, but I picked up a few orbs and was able to beat him down. He left with the parting shot..luckiest win ever. A little bit, but if you were more aggressive and didn't let me set up that beni+teach, I wouldn't have had a shot. You could have easily clamped down the board and killed me off. Lucky on my part...poorly played on your part. Thanks for the win.

Somehow, many players miss that giving your opponent freedom when you have the opportunity to take it from him is one of the biggest Quad downfalls there is.
