True Ranking Series [Sign ups closed]

I've decided to start something here on the QuadBoard and I'm willing to offer a cash prize to encourage people to sign up.

I've been fed up with the Leaderboard for quite awhile now and would rather have a more competitive list to separate the contenders from the pretenders. We all know how easy it is to rank high on the Leaderboard: try to start hot and play as little games as possible to keep that percentage up. If you do this, and you know who you are, that's fine, but for players who love this game too much to play only a handful of games a month, this system can often be irritating.

So what I'm proposing is a new type of ranking system, updated every month here on the QuadBoard. No entry fee required, but if you manage to win this thing I'll personally give you $20.

Ranksitters, don't even bother signing up because you won't make the cut. You must play at least 60 games a month. That's two games a day for most months, other months its close enough to two. That's all you have to do. Every month I will track the wins and losses of the participants and at the end of the month I'll post it in a neat little list in the thread. At the end of December I will average out your ranking for the year and the winner will be shipped $20. No strings attached.

In order to prevent any kind of cheating, I've contacted a few of the more active people about keeping an eye on the players for me. If you're caught playing the same player a bunch, you'll get kicked out. Any sign of playing a multiple account and you'll get kicked out. I'd like to trust everyone here but there are plenty of greedy people out there who wouldn't hesitate to cheat to win a little cash. For this reason, I will hand select the people who participate. If you're a Guest, brand new, if I haven't played with you much, or if I flat out don't trust you, you're not allowed to join. Play some more and try again next year.

With all that said, I'd like to start this in April. Let's see how many signups we get in the next 8 days.

I have a question, what if somebody has one very busy month and cannot make the 60 games in that month only? Would he be allowed to make up for that in another month so that he still has 540+ games at the end?

A freeroll for 15€.. It's a symbolic prize, but an interesting idea to revive the game. (I'm not 100% sure about the legality of this, especially in the US, but whatevs. Maybe a more appropriate prize would be/include quad-merchandize/free memberships etc.)

Wondering what you mean when you say you'll "track the wins and losses of the participants and at the end of the month" ? Does that mean you'll just be considering the over all Wins / Played each month, or is it within the bounds of the others that have signed up?

If it is the latter, why not keep a reporting thread -- not unlike every tournament we've seen done here?

There's no harm in signing up. If you don't hit 60 games in a month then you'll be put at the bottom of the rankings for that month, or if multiple people don't hit 60, you could still rank higher than them if you did better your previous month. Honestly sanzo, you might be able to win this thing even with a few months of not qualifying. Get enough 1st and 2nd place finishes and it might make up for it.

No. Play anyone, just not yourself.

You can play anyone. Think of it as a modified Lobby Leaderboard with a cash prize for the person who does the best each year. All I'm going to do is look for all the players in the TRS who've played over 60 games and rank them in the thread at the end of each month.
